Exchange 2007 setup keeps telling me "one of more servers in the organization is running exchange server 2003 without ..."
Howdy folks... I'm stumped. Here's the situation: EX2k7:a Win2k3 R2 x64 SP1 box (non-DC) EX2k3: a Win2k3 SP1 x86 box running Exchange 2003 SP2 (DC). The organisation is in native mode already. DC: a Win2k3 R2 x64 SP1 box which is DC, Catalog master, RID master, Schema master... the works. (the names are to refer to them here... they're faked ;-) I could tell you that they're called BBOOM, Tullio and Bradford, but that would be confusing ;-) If I run the Exchange 2007 setup program on EX2k7, once it gets to the point where it wants to identify which site to join, I press the Browse button which shows me the existing Exchange servers. It identifies Ex2k3, my Exchange 2003 server as version 6.5 (Build 7623:0: Service Pack 2). When I proceed and it does its checks, it then throws an error: One of more servers in the organization is running Exchange Server 2003 without Service Pack 2". Darn, five seconds ago it told me that it WAS. I reapplied SP2 to see if that would help... no luck. I then ran ExchBPA... and lo and behold, that showed me that the offending server was indeed Ex2k3, not some remnant of an old machine that was left in AD somewhere. Just for kicks, I installed another Exchange 2003 instance on another machine (Ex2k3-test), I applied Service Pack 2 to that immediately, and reran ExchBPA... and dammit, ExchBPA identifies Ex2k3-test as not having SP2 as well. It is apparent that the build level is retrieved from more than one source... the Browse button in the organisation selection dialog takes me to a dialog that now lists both servers as version 6.5 (Build 7623:0: Service Pack 2). Is there anyone who can help me? I'm stumped... and yes,I googled this already till my fingers fell off! regards, pete

have you looked in the setuplogs, (C:\ExchangeSetupLogs) they can give you some more info. are your DC's replicating as they should?

Yes, I have. The setup log tells me exactly what the UI told me. And my DC's are replicating just fine! ;-) Here's the Setup log: [3-5-2008 15:00:48] [0] **********************************************[3-5-2008 15:00:48] [0] Starting Microsoft Exchange 2007 Setup[3-5-2008 15:00:48] [0] **********************************************[3-5-2008 15:00:48] [0] Setup version: 8.0.685.25.[3-5-2008 15:00:48] [0] Logged on user: INDISCIPLINE\Administrator.[3-5-2008 15:00:48] [0] Command Line Parameter Name='mode', Value='Install'.[3-5-2008 15:00:48] [0] Command Line Parameter Name='sourcedir', Value='D:\'.[3-5-2008 15:00:48] [0] Command Line Parameter Name='fromsetup', Value=''.[3-5-2008 15:00:48] [0] ExSetupUI was started with the following command: '-mode:install -sourcedir:" /FromSetup'.[3-5-2008 15:00:49] [0] Setup is choosing the domain controller to use[3-5-2008 15:00:49] [0] Setup is choosing a local domain controller...[3-5-2008 15:00:52] [0] Setup has chosen the local domain controller tullio.indiscipline for initial queries[3-5-2008 15:00:52] [0] PrepareAD has either not been run or has not replicated to the domain controller used by Setup. Hmm, doesn't ring a bell. Is that something that is done if you run Setup interactively? I'll google on it and see what gives! thanks so far... I'll be back! :-)
